I think it’s so hard for them returning after how last year ended and the uncertainty of the year ahead. Hopefully they will settle down now they are back with their friends.

I hope Josh and you had a good sleep and feel ok today xx

Georgia said she’s hoping her uni will consider people who live together to be lab partners for her biology degree, as she is staying with other biology students so it would make sense. It sounds as if Chichester has taken this route with the musical theatre course.
Not feeling as upset as last September, but already missing her

She is fairly sensible but its the others she is sharing with one is saying he is planning a party, luckily not everyone is back yet so he has decided to wait. I'm hoping the Uni issue some further guidelines soon. She is due to start rehearsals for a showcase they do for the freshers. It has already been decided that it will be streamed so only the performers are in the theatre but there are 30 of them in the show so not sure how the social distancing will work. I read last night Oxford Uni has told students if they don't follow the rules about social distancing then they will get fined some of the rules were no guests staying overnight and only socialising within your bubble.

I can imagine social distancing is going to present some difficulties for a theatre course, although I’m so pleased her course are working on ways to do so

I’m presuming all unis will be working with a bubble system, it will be interesting to see how practical it will be, especially when students have a boyfriend or girlfriend staying over or friends from home coming to stay.

She is sharing with 4 others off her course so they find they will be classed as a bubble for practical lessons. My friends husband has said the uni he works at will be holding classes between 8am to 8pm and Saturday mornings to fit in all the smaller classes. I think its going to be a strange start to the year and fingers crossed we don't go into lockdown again and have to bring them home again.
My DD is in Bognor Regis on the Triple Threat course and hasn't heard anything about her classes for her 3rd year yet. She hasn't been home since Christmas and renewed her flat lease for her third year in January 2020. Interesting times.

How’s everyone coping with the students returning? Or with them still home? Georgia is still here, she goes back around the 20th which is 2 weeks before her course starts, so she can settle in her new home with her friends. She’s heard that lectures will be online all year, but she will get lab sessions. So she’s expecting around 3-6 hours on campus each week which is not great news. She also heard today that the field trips which are a mandatory part of the Biology course will all be based in the UK this year. Obviously we can understand why this is, but Georgia has her mind set on a trip to Costa Rica for bat conservation so she’s naturally very disappointed that she won’t have the opportunity to do this 😔

She’s been happy at home, but she’s keen to get back to the city now and see her friends naturally. I think I’m going to find it difficult again as she’s been home so long, plus I’ve got extra worries now with her living in a city and the risks of the virus in a busy city. I know she’s sensible and will do all she can to stay safe. How is everyone else feeling about the students returning? Nervous or pleased to finally let them go again 😂 ? Has any already returned, if so how are they finding their new accommodation? Have they started to settle back yet?

My DD went for a week to her 2nd year student house last month, just to see the lie of the land, her new room etc. Car was full of her bedding, kitchen/bathroom stuff from last year, and a weeks worth of clothes.

The house is nice, 5 girls sharing, one full bathroom and one downstairs loo, bit of outside space, not bad nick but a few things they need to sort out with the agent. They are getting on with it and I'm not getting involved. Their agents contractors are working on a house on the same street so a couple of things on their list have already been done quite quickly.

She came home for a fortnight, and on Saturday I took her back as she moved in properly (so another car full of stuff - I'm gonna need a van to move her out again !).

She has her timetable for her first term, 2nd year. Her only contact session on campus in class is 3 hours each Friday. She has a "live" lecture once a week online, and all her other contact time is online at a time which suits her in the week.

I miss her, the house is very quiet, just me and cat. But we've been here before, I'll get used to it and she facetimes me every couple of days.

Hello, what a shame about Georgia missing her trip, this really is a strange time for all

We took Joshua back to Portsmouth on the 1st September as that was when they got the keys to the house rental

He is sharing with 3 boys and 2 girls, his room is small and a bit grim but ok, he didn’t seem to mind it haha

He was very happy to go as eager to get back after being home for so long and was getting fed up

He actually went to Sicily with his girlfriend yesterday for a short break and seems to be enjoying it

His course doesn’t start until October so he’s going to scout around for a part time job as soon as he returns from his holiday, not sure if he will find anything though

We will be going back to see him next Wednesday as it is his 21st birthday and we are taking him out for lunch somewhere nice

I am of course worried about him keeping safe but I have to just trust him to be as responsible as possible, he has signed up with the Uni for Covid tests as they want to test 10% of the students on a regular basis

Good luck to all students going back and all parents as well

We took a car load down in July to Georgia’s house, but will have a second carload when we take her back too. Where do they get it all from? I’m sure she didn’t have this much last year 😂

Good to hear your DD’s house is nice. Georgia is sharing with 3 other girls and they have the same bathroom space as your DD. At least with mainly online lectures they may not have such a rush for the shower each morning 😀

It’s sad that they are having such little contact teaching. I do understand that it’s safer but I feel it’s going to be less interesting following lectures online (although Georgia did a lot of online lectures through March-June and found it ok)

I think we are all going to find we miss them a lot this year. I know our cat will really miss Georgia as she cuddles him all the time when she’s home 😀

That’s great news that Joshua has settled back again. Lucky him, getting a quick break to Sicily in 😀

Georgia’s course starts the 5 October, she is hoping to find some volunteer animal care/conservation work in Bristol this year. She’s looked at a few charities though and they are all saying they can’t take volunteers at the moment due to the virus 😢

I do hope you have a lovely day with Joshua on Wednesday and he has a great birthday. Well done to him for signing up for the testing , I had heard that some unis were doing this. I guess they are concerned about the return causing a spike in numbers so they want to monitor it carefully
