Back in my day we were out clubbing at 16. This was par for the course in the 1980s. I sometimes look at my daughter who is 16 and feel things are too strict now.

I also drank in US before 21- the international driving license was easy to get a fake DOB on all those years ago. Naughty I know but I wanted to go to Pleasure Island in 1990. When we were at school and college we didn’t care about the details.

I once got into trouble at 16 as a French student teacher came over- I bet she was only about 20, and we went for a night out and got hammered and school found out. Good times, now there would be uproar about safeguarding but I wasn’t complaining. Quite the opposite. She got into trouble though. Headmaster called me in and said if I do similar again keep quiet about it! Right boy he was😂

Similar here. Went to the pub from about 16, no one ever questioned you. Went to a nightclub for my 17th, my Mum said, just a treat, no more till you are 18 - wrong, I went every week after I was 17. Used to go with a good group of friends and the bouncers knew us, as we were regulars, they used to let us in for free. Looking back those bouncers were really good guys, always making sure we got in a taxi, telling us to go to them if there was ever any trouble etc. Went to the odd 18 film when I was 16, nothing awful, the one I remember was a Tom Cruise film called Risky Business.

Bear in mind I started working at 15 -

First pint in a Pub - 15
Driving Ford Transits on building sites - 15
Driving 7 ton lorries on site - 15
Nightclubs regularly - 16
Driving the Manitou Forklift on site - 16

But the best of all was having a 3 hour play around on site of a D8 Caterpillar Excavator with scraper box attached. I think the weight was over 38 tons! Aged 16 but may have been 15

Had to go for a drink aged 16 in a pub round the corner from where I lived as couldn't go to the one opposite our house as my aunt was the licensee.
Also drove on the roads with just a provisional license on a couple of times without a qualified driver in the passenger seat.

Driving on the road at 13( transit milk float) driving mum and dad's cars without them knowing at 14 in to town picking mates up. Scary when I think about it now. In the pub at 14 but no alcohol until I got to 16. But a different pub off licence counter served at 14.

I used to go to the local pub with my boyfriend (now husband) from the age of around 15/16 and drink alcohol, my boyfriend was 18 at the time. This was in the early 80’s.

It was a local pub and we were friendly with the landlord and landlady and all the locals and my DH played in the darts team. One evening we asked the landlord if he could run a bar at our local community centre as we were having a party to celebrate our engagement and my 18th birthday. The landlord laughed out loud and joked that it would be a pleasure to serve me legal drinks after serving me for the past 3 years 😂

Drinking, smoking, going to pubs from 14. I mostly didn’t get served in pubs because I looked young but just drunk my friends drinks. I don’t smoke and hardly drink now!
