The sea was a bit choppy across the Bay of Bisque but I didn’t notice any green faces !

I loved it, researching my next one.
I fancy cruising and DH fancies a cruise towards Scandinavia to see the Northern Lights. But he does suffer with motion sickness (which is one of the reasons why he hasn't enjoyed theme parks as much as we have) so I think we may try a 2-3 night mini cruise to see how he feels. He actually felt queasy on the Staten Island Ferry crossing in New York last year so bit unsure about cruises.

My teens loved it! Check out my trip report Snowball, there was loads to do. 😊

OP, as I said, dont rule out cruising, just choose wisely, go in good weather, and dont cross the bay or irish sea for your first cruise, try to do a fly cruise starting in italy or similar, the bigger the ship the less motion.

We like to do other things plus Disney. I think my favourite places to visit have been South Africa both Jo'Burg/SunCity/Kruger & Cape Town. We are going again in February for hubby's 50th, Other favourites have been Borneo but about 16/18 hours of flying changing in Kuala Lumpar and Costa Rica, Have also enjoyed Hong Kong a couple of times & Vegas/West Coast USA a few times (and of course Anaheim for Disney!

The larger cruise ships are so well stabilised that you shouldn't feel any serious motion. We've done the Caribbean three times all from Florida, the Med twice (once from Southampton and once from Rome) and the Canaries from Southampton.

Admittedly they were all in the summer and the Caribbean and the Med were like millponds. However, as Linda says, the crossing of the Bay of Biscay on the way to Gibraltar was a bit choppy and the swimming pools were closed as water was washing over the deck. However you won't be going anywhere near the Bay of Biscay.

Don't know what the North Sea is like though - maybe someone who has done that area can help.

South Africa sounds interesting. We have visited Cabo Verde islands which were very unspoilt and the people were very friendly and appreciated the tourism so possibly other parts of Africa would be worth looking into.

We are probably flying to Vietnam next year to visit our son, which will be the longest flight we have been on. So we will see how that goes and could consider further afield then if we are ok with that long a flight. We find Florida flights are pretty good for us and are not too bad with jetlag then.

I will bear that in mind, that bigger ships cause less motion sickness. Maybe that is why DH has been queasy when we have been on ferries or small boat trips on our previous holidays.

Thanks Mick, I can see if there are any short summer Med cruises to try out. Maybe a stay and cruise combination of a few days in a resort, then a mini-cruise to see if DH is ok. I believe cabins on lower decks are better than higher decks for motion sickness too? Unless it's the opposite, and I got it totally wrong 😀

Fly cruises leave from loads of Med ports such as Rome, Barcelona, Venice, Palma and a few others so you could do a city/beach stay then a cruise.

Not sure about the level of deck being worse for rolling but one tip from me. We always have a balcony cabin as it's lovely to open the curtains and sit outside to a new port on nearly every morning. We do however choose a deck with at least another deck of cabins above and below. Could be very noisy if the casino, night club or theatres are only one level away.

Thanks Mick, handy tips. We are planning Barcelona as one of our new places to visit so could see if we can find a cruise to add on to stay.
