Annual holiday insurance advice

Forgive me if these are stupid questions but I’ve only ever booked individual holiday insurance policies after booking a specific holiday.

I’ve booked a few lots of ba flights for next year (deposit only) and im looking at an annual policy to cover potentially 3 trips. Can I take out an annual policy now for flights already booked or would the annual policy have needed to be in place prior to booking the flights?

I’d be taking out a family policy would that cover me if I was to travel by myself as I have a long weekend to krakow booked with a friend late in 2021 or would the policy only apply to trips where the whole family were travelling?

Lastly any recommendations of companies to use or avoid?

The insurance would cover you from when you take out the annual policy.
I think you may only have a problem if things had changed from booking the flights to taking out the insurance ie the carrier went bust.

As far as I know you can use the policy for solo trips but would be interested to know from other dibbers what they think
