They are so canny. I had an E Mail off them overnight ref Blink indoor cameras.

No I don't want them, mmm maybe I was a bit hasty!

So I have just spent 20 mins reading up on them. Maybe was probably the wrong word. Almost certainly is probably a better term

I’ve become if I can pick it up in a shop nearby it comes from amazon, or if I can wait until tomorrow/9pm it’s from amazon! Some of my speciality stuff I’m more prone to buying from specific places (nail items from the beauty supplies, fabric & embroidery supplies from a few places online) but I had to order a part for my embroidery machine, (bobbin race) and I’ve ordered from a specialist shop and it might not be dispatched for 2 weeks, I’m now getting impatient, so might check amazon...

It's not so much the tax avoidance, I don't pretend to be an expert on companies paying tax, they've been largely criticised for many ethical issues including staff exploitation, environmental issues and animal policies, it's worth a google as makes interesting reading.

"In August 2018 we looked into Amazon's policy on materials such as fur, angora, merino wool, and silk. They did not prohibit the sale of any of these materials despite the fact that their production involves the exploitation and killing of animals."

That one bothers me the most but I am hypocritical as using them makes my life easier, I'm not someone who enjoys shopping, if I can get it delivered then I far prefer to do so and I also accept that there is always more to it than what you read online.

I have been to Amazon functions as a friend of mine owns an entertainment company and I've gone along to help them as these are generally VERY big events held locally to where I live.

Money and products are thrown at their staff, we were given staggering amounts of merchandise including giant chocolate bars, USBs etc. and told to just 'give them away randomly', TVs, games machines, laptops etc. given away at intervals all night long, yet their staff don't talk positively about them at all.

Still a Prime member and regular customer though, whereas I have many local friends who flatly refuse to use them

I use amazon as it’s a two to three hour round trip to our nearest proper shops. Amazon Spain delivers to me in two days due to my location.

High street shops will disappear, but that’s because of their business models etc and high rates. This is probably the next industrial revolution, things change. People will always shop where it’s cheaper after all this forum is often the source of better value flights, hotels and foods etc. Human nature

Not sure what it is like now but the way the warehouse staff were treated was appalling a couple of years ago. Lots of health and safety issues.

When (eventually) all that is available from Amazon is the stuff that has paid highest for promotion, people will come to regret it.

The cheap chuck away society is of our own making because for the amazon model to work we always need to be buying, always need to be upgrading, always need to be replacing.

Why buy something well made that will last for decades direct from a UK manufacturer when you can buy something cheaper on line through Amazon, from China that will do for a couple of years. Then complain that things don't last the way they used to and replace it with the same low quality stuff because that is all that is available.

If delivery is free who is being squeezed?

Amazon is taking on thousands of new employees and have ordered 100,000 new electric delivery vehicles from a start up company - so it could be said that the anything unethical could be cancelled out :

Yes I look at at Amazon first.
Years ago DH bought a computer through Amazon, a partner company. At 11 months it was playing up and the company said try this try that till it was obviously faulty and out of guarantee. When DH contacted the company they said tough luck.
I phoned Amazon who refunded him £200, half the value of the computer immediately.
He got it fixed elsewhere.
You can't beat their customer service.
