Wow that a heck of a lot of alcohol every day plus the financial expense !

I remember a few posts recently where you said you were broke/skint so maybe draw up a spread sheet and illustrate to him how much money he is wasting and what else (both) could spend it on instead like meals out or day trips somewhere etc - that may help focus the mind

There is a high risk of withdrawal symptoms on even reducing amount consumed . Hallucinations & seizures among them. Medical care & treatment is essential from the start. You cannot " help" if they don't want to help themselves . They need to do it for themselves. Seek support for yourself as well ( not saying you drink) but your life is also affected.

You need medical help for him, no one on here can or should be offering you advice.
My friends Nan drinks like this, they’ve had her at the DR as she has been having issues with her memory, and her tests show it’s too dangerous to have her just stop drinking. It could actually kill her due to the damage already done.
She also functions perfectly fine, suffers no hangovers etc.
Not to scare you, but nothing should be done without medical advice and supervision, especially after this has gone on for over 30 years

i am not here to offer advice . Everyone's journey in life is different. i had an issue around alcohol and substance abuse and am in a 12 step programme . i will be 9 years clean and sober 2nd december. i found the only way i could stop was by going to meetings and speaking to like minded people and speaking to my sponsor every day. It was not easy to start with but did get a little better everyday. if you asked my advise it sounds like the person in question has not hit rock bottom like i had and knew i had to surrender otherwise my life has i knew it would be over. unless the person admits they have a problem it is really hard to suggest what is for the best

good luck the op it is an hard road but there is hope for everyone

Huge congratulations on your sobriety, it’s not an easy road at all

Sorry in my first post forgot to mention in my early days of recovery my partner went to a couple of meetings with Al-Anon Family Group. you can find them on the internet they are mainly for people living with someone who has issues around addiction. Again not offering advice but may be helpful to you
good luck and god bless

Congrats Bigbaggy on your sobriety!

I would say that both AA and AlAnon require a belief in god (or a higher power) and this approach makes it very difficult for some people - and is amazing for others. My mum found it very depressing to listen to other people’s struggles and also felt that she didn’t have as many issues in life as them and was therefore weaker.

What I am saying is that there are many talking approaches AA is one and there are others, so anyone struggling with alcohol needs to find the route that works for them - which may be a residential program, one to one counselling, Librium therapy. AA or a combination of all of these.
But I think that you also raise a very valid point that the people living with the person with addiction issues needs as much support as the person themselves.

Everything is going ok.
Every Sunday he doesn't drink for 24hours-no side affects at all.
Plus during the rest of the week hes cut down or has alcohol free beer.
Small steps
