My nephew wants to meet Buzz Lightyear it is also his best friends(who won't be with us) favourite. We didn't know if we were allowed to make a sign saying hello Alfie and hold it up in front of Buzz when we meet him then take a photo which we can send to Alfie. Would this be Ok?

I can't see why not, you could let the CM with Buzz know what you'd like to do just before you get your time with him.

We got Peter Pan to do a little "Hi Isobel" video to our phone when we met him at WDW, for my DD's best friend who looooves Peter .

Absolutely, last time we asked Mary Pound to say hello to our nieces, she happily said few words so we could send it to them.

Unless things have changed, Buzz doesn't talk, so I don't think that suggestion will work unfortunately.

As for holding up signs, there was a thread on this recently and I think the consensus was that it isn't allowed because there is a risk that the image could be altered to say something inappropriate and un-Disney. You could always ask the CM with the character though.

You could always get an extra autograph stamp (Buzz stamps rather than signs) and edit a photo yourselves to put words over it?

A vlogger I watch is a CM and wanted to celebrate her cousins graduation (which she was missing because she had to work) so she got a couple of the buttons at Guest Services with their names on and did a bunch of pics of the buttons in front of the castle etc and took them along to character meets - maybe give that a try?

As above buzz doesn’t speak so I think the sign is a good idea.
We have asked Anna to say happy birthday to our friends daughter before then usually don’t mind. And actually it’s nice for them do it.
Buzz has(had) a stamp last time we were there so you could get him to stamp the sign too.

Last time I was at HS in November I went to meet Buzz, he is my absolute favourite, so I was wearing my Buzz t-shirt, and carrying my handmade Buzz bag.
To which he was over the moon about! (yes i know i sound ridiculous saying this, i am 26)

However, he then proceeded to hand write me a message. 'To Rozelle, Love Buzz Lightyear' and the CM then stuck a sticker on it.

The photopass photographer captured the whole thing as well! so I have A LOT of photos of myself and Buzz.

Always worth mentioning this, as it may be possible to get one for your son's friend.

The meet location was in TS land, and the queue was long! so it wasnt just because he had no wait!

Honestly made the last day of our holiday amazing!
