Flight hold temperature
I should know this, as I've flown many times. Does the hold of a plane get hot or cold, or both. Thinking of taking some chocolate and wondering if it would melt.

Planes have split holds. Some are temperature and air controlled so that animals can be transported for example. Where your luggage goes may not be pressurised and thus would be cold. Chocolate would fine - but wrap it well.

It can vary from aircraft type (boeing, airbus etc), they can also have different sections of the cargo holds at different temperatures dependent on what other cargo they have. Might be worthwhile asking whoever you are travelling with if they have the info. I think in the main though the temperature is kept stable and slightly cooler than the passenger cabin.

Thank you, I didn't want to find it melted when I got there.

The hold won't be warmer that the cabin so your chocolate will be ok.

ALL Plane holds are pressurised and heated to the same temperature as the cabin. This information was on that bbc2 Heathrow tv series a couple of weeks ago.

haha don't believe everything you see on tv.
On a 747 and a330/340s the forward hold has no temperature control and will hover around 4 degrees. The rear hold can vary between 4 and 18 degrees depending on what heat setting is selected. That's why we load perishable cargo in the front and animals at the back. Wherever your suitcase is loaded, your chocolate will be fine |

If you're worried pack the chocolate in a small cool bag that will pack flat. You can always use this for cans in the car while you're there too.
