Good choice.
Yes FQ is nice, but AKL is lovely and unique. People who havent been before say AKL is miles away from nowhere. In fact we found the buses to be more frequent than FQ/RS. Also, think of Disney World as a Triangle. AK one corner, Springs the other and MK at the top, with everything in between. Now, unless you are staying in the middle, then everything is the same distance (almost). AKL is just as far away from Springs as FQ is from AK. Both are almost the same to MK and HS.

POFQ is actually my fave resort but I have stayed at AKL a couple of times too and I never understand the comments about it being ages away from everywhere. The only time I ever noticed it was the journey to DS which I do think takes a while but the journeys to the parks really aren't bad and of course AK is a very quick trip.
We are at FQ in September but back over to AKL next year as my parents love it there. It's really a beautiful resort and i'm sure you'll love it!

I don't understand how everyone gets such a good price to change from FQ to AKL... I've rung a couple of times and always quoted over £1000 and we already have the upgraded dining at FQ. Oh well, enjoy AKL I'm very jealous!

It's probably a combination of the upgraded dining plan, plus a more expensive room category (royal rooms are particularly expensive). Also, the number and ages of people in the room will make a big difference to the cost of the upgraded plan. For example, 4 people all aged 10+ for 2 weeks will cost £952 to upgrade, whereas 2 adults and 2 children aged 3-9 will be £560. Just 2 adults will be £476 making the difference in upgrading to AKL bigger.
