I have had this happen several times
I have always just refunded and politely referred them to the wording on Listing saying Cash On Collection only.
Luckily non have contested it as I fear I might be considered on dodgy ground by Ebay as I don't think you can refuse a Paypal payment !
But Buyer would have to know that too !
It is annoying when they do this despite the huge red Cash on Collection only wording I put on

I will also ask him to message me - through Ebay- to say thanks, trailer collected with vehicle reg. XXX and I will take a picture of him leaving with it.

If they pay cash on collection ebay will just charge your final selling fee based on item being sold at the amount it was sold at so if you sell an item for £100 they will take their % say £10 plus your charity donation of say £10 and bill you for £20 on your invoice date at the end of the month and take it from your paypal.

If the person doesnt turn up and pay you then have to open up a claim in order to get it refunded

I prefer cash on collection if they are collecting as you have no proof they have had the item and as pp said they can then reverse the paypal.

I'm at POR for the first week on site I would actually love to meet up for a cocktail (or have a coaster buddy for the parks as im taking my disabled adult niece and mum and they dont do rides)

That bidder won the auction and that was the last I heard from him. He hasn't been in contact since so now I have to deal with an Ebay dispute so as not to pay the fees

I’m quite strict with my eBay listings. I don’t accept bids from zero rated ebayers! If an item is cash on collection only I also put in the description that if they pay via PayPal it will be refunded to them, cash on collection means exactly this.

And yes. Have a security pen thing to check the notes.
