What do you pay for electricity?

I'm sure our electric meter is faulty, the amount we pay is extortionate, I've reported this to EDF 2 months ago and was told we'd get a smart meter, on chasing this up recently it would appear we don't qualify for one so won't be getting one (no explanation as to why).

They've logged that we think we're overpaying, but don't seem to be doing anything at all about it. I don't really know where to go from here with it.

For perspective, we're paying £145 a month, JUST for electricity (we don't have gas), which is far more than we paid in our old house which was bigger and there were 4 of us for most of the time we lived there, just 3 of us now.

Is it me? I just don't see how we can be using this amount of electricity.

If you are on economy 7 you need to learn how to use the storage heaters. You have a input and output. Now it is getting warm you need to switch them off. When they are in use you set the input to about 3 and output to 1. Our winter bill is about £200 per month our last bill was £113 and expect the next one to be about £90. It is all about knowing how to use it. You should do your washing at off peek.

When we had new light fittings in the kitchen they where fitted with halogen bulbs, only 8 but wow did they make our electricity meter light blink fast ! We changed them to led and that helped. I keep asking the kids to turn off all their electronic gizmos but they never do and I don't pay nearly as much as you.
I pay £80 a month joint gas/electric 3 bed, 2 bath 1920s semi. Heating is gas everything else electric.
What heating do you have, is that different to your last house. Do you have hot tub or anything using high power ?

Our combined gas and electric is £90 per month and we have been overpaying it seems, they have just reduced it to £75.
Mind you we are only 2 adults but it is a big house and things are left on standby, tumble dryer in use etc.
We are with Flo energy, always shop around and switch if we can get it cheaper, haven’t had to change for 2 years now.

We have oil fired heating, we do have electric heating (air con units) but use them VERY rarely, the bedroom one was used in the winter for around 3 minutes after a shower a few times over the winter when the temperature really dropped, we've not used the air con at all yet, it's just not been that hot yet.
We do have a hot tub, but it's supposed to be a very efficient one electric wise, I think they estimate under £15 a month.

Maybe consider another energy supplier - we switch every year and there an enormous price difference between suppliers. Have you given the company actual meter readings or are they estimating your usage?

We are with EDF and we pay £97 a month for joint gas and electric. We are 3 adults living in a 4 bed detached house. Seems like you are paying a lot unless you have your central heating on all day and night.

My heating is oil fired although we only heat downstairs anyway, and have a real fire in the lounge so rarely heat in there. Our oil usage is what I'd expect, the electricity bill is extortionate for what we use.

I would be very surprised if your hot tub was only costing £1 a month even if it is classed as 'efficient'. We are roughly £30 a month for ours and were about the same in our previous house for our last one too.
