If she doesn't want to phone them just now, tell her to set up online on the .gov site. It's really easy and you can see everything that they have based their assessment on. I suddenly had a tax code alteration a few months ago, they had me down as earning a considerable sum of money (think a good scratchcard win) for the year on a private pension , if only I was. I altered the amount to what it should have been, it was then changed on their system and I received notification. There were a couple of other things wrong, which I also altered online and it was all corrected.

I have two jobs and as a consequence the tax office split my tax code though they did write and inform me before doing it .
