Vancouver and Alaska Cruise

We have 5 days in Vancouver before joining our cruise. Does anyone have any suggestions about must see/do while we’re there.

Stanley Park is great, you can spend a whole day wandering around as there is so much to see with some really beautiful areas.

Go over to Vancouver Island.

Take a trip on a Seaplane

Depending on the time of year you could take a full day boat trip out to spot Orcas, we didn't have long enough to do that but our friends did it the year before and had a fantastic view. We did see lots of Humpbacks on our cruise though.

Saunter around Gastown and soak up some of the history of the area.

Go up Vancouver Lookout to get your bearings, we did that the morning of our cruise and could see our Cruise ship in port.

Enjoy a sunset walk too

We have 5 days before our Vancouver/Hawaii cruise next month.

The recommendations we have been given include a day trip to Vancouver Island for Victoria and Butchart gardens, and we have compiled the following:

Grouse Mountain
Capilano Suspension Bridge
Stanley Park
Fly over Canada
Granville Island
Vancouver lookout
Gas Town
China Town
Burnaby Village Museum
Vancouver Aquarium
Queen Elizabeth Park
Richmond Olympic Experience
Rogers Arena
BC Place

There are several free guided walking tours too, but a lot will depend if you want to hire a car and how far you want to travel to visit but there are organised day trips that go to Whistler for example.

Hopefully this will give you a good starting point for your research- I have admitted defeat in trying to fit everything into our days.

We walked for miles and I felt very safe except around Chinatown which felt particularly seedy and I did not feel comfortable at all.

Thanks all. We’re doing a Celebrity cruise leaving on the 10th of May. We’ll definitely do a trip to Vancouver Island and possibly Whistler. It’s difficult trying to fit all the other stuff in.

If you like cats, they have the most fab Cat Café in Vancouver. I spent hours there much to Micks disgust!

Have fun on your cruise, we'd all love to see photos and hear about it afterwards. We don't get many reports back about Celebrity.

Thanks Bats. We love cats. We’ve been to ones in Glasgow and Edinburgh and came across one in Washington earlier this year although we didn’t have time to go inside.

We honeymooned in Canada and Alaska. We had 6 days before our cruise and went to Ucluelet on Vancouver Island and spent our time visiting Cathedral Grove, whale watching etc. However, we also had the luxury of having 6 days after the cruise to spend in Vancouver. We splurged and stayed at the Pan Pacific, but we get around plenty too. If I had to choose my 3 favourites, it would be Grouse Mountain, a sea plane over to Victoria (lovely) and whale watching. Have a lovely time.
