Early morning update from US Hurricane center...

Chantal continues to move as a depression and expected to turn then slowly drift into a passing weather system.

Developing weather system:

Recent satellite-derived wind data indicate that a weak area of low
pressure is located between the southeastern coast of Florida and
Andros Island in the northwestern Bahamas. The system is producing
a large area of disorganized cloudiness and showers that extend
primarily northeast of the center over the adjacent Atlantic Ocean.
The low is forecast to move near or over Florida later today, which
should limit development during the next day or so. Environmental
conditions appear conducive for development once the system moves
back over the Atlantic waters, and a tropical depression could form
over the weekend or early next week while the low moves near the
coast of east-central Florida and then offshore of the southeastern
United States coast. Regardless of development, locally heavy rains
are possible over the northwestern Bahamas and southern and central Florida during the next few days.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...60 percent.
Some wet and breezy conditions for the coming days

Morning (USA)/Lunchtime (UK) update...

Business is picking up

Chantal continues as a depression, has started it's turn and will continue over the weekend but still expected to breakdown and go away.

We now have 2 weather systems to watch

Disturbance 1 in Red
The low is forecast to move near or over
the Florida peninsula through tonight, which should limit
development during that time. Environmental conditions appear
conducive for development once the system moves northeastward back over the Atlantic waters on Saturday. A tropical depression is
likely to form this weekend or early next week while the low moves
from near the coast of east-central Florida to offshore of the
southeastern United States coast. Regardless of development,
locally heavy rains are possible over the northwestern Bahamas and
southern and central Florida through the weekend.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...40 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...70 percent.
Rain, wind and unsettled weather for a few days.

Disturbance 2 in Yellow
Showers and thunderstorms have increased since yesterday in association with a tropical wave located about 1400 miles
east-southeast of the Windward Islands. Additional slow development
of this system is possible during the next few days as it moves
generally westward at about 15 mph.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.
One to watch, into next week as things develop.

Although threads like this are a good source of information, I will not be paying attention to the weather at all when I'm away. If it impacts us in any way I will deal with it at the time, no need to be stressed out before you even go.
We have been in Florida twice when Hurricanes have hit, Irma and Michael, so know what impact they can cause.

Tropical storms/depressions occur all the time off the coast of Africa/Mid-Atlantic and I don't have the time to worry in case they MAY hit Florida when I'm on holiday.

Early morning update from US Hurricane Center...

Chantal now broken up and taken in by passing weather system

Stormy weather system moving up the US eastern coast into the Atlantic, being watched as it could turn and head back toward.

TS Dorian now beginning to build and turn to a hurricane as it heads towards Dominican Republic & Haiti, expected to then drop to a depression as it hits the lower bahamas, likely to bring unsettled weather to Florida if it doesn't build up again in the warmer waters.

We’ve had the same on two occasions. Worst we’ve done was swap a park day for a shopping day. All done!

Remember cat 1 hurricane is normally what we refer to as ‘a wee bit of wind’ in Scotland 🤭

Early morning update from US hurricane center...

Weather system on East Coast now declared as Tropical Depression 6, now expected to build to a tropical storm on course for Eastern Canadian fringes where it'll break down.

TS Dorian now beginning to work it's way into the Caribbean, still expecting to build up to Hurricane force over Puerto Rico & the Dominican Republic before easing off, expected to come across Florida over the course of the weekend so a wet & unsettled weekend is likely.
