Gold AP

Please bare with me as I'm having a bit of a ditzy moment. I have always intended to upgrade our 14 day ultimates to DVC gold pass as we are planning on a return trip before they expire. My questions are;

Do I have to do it at the beginning of the trip?

If I don't and I use it at a water park, can I then not get the Gold AP as they exclude water parks?

I was all set to upgrade in my head then have just realised that we will deffo want to to WP's this year as we are going with first timers and it will probably not be cost effective if I add the cost of the WP's to the upgrade price.
I hope this makes sense.
TIA.

1. You can do it any point in the 14 days
2. Once you use the waterparks then wave goodbye to Gold. Huge jump to the passes with the waterparks included (jumps from $699 to $999
3.What might be an option is a water park annual pass. They are $139.

Due to the extra cost and we've done the waterparks loads we are sticking to the Gold pass, visting 4 times in the next 12 months. We bought them before the increase so paid $609 I think/

We will be looking to upgrade our 14 day tickets to Gold APs, and also to buy Water Park APs.

My question is if we buy the Water Park APs before upgrading our 14 day tickets, and we then go to a water park, how do we make sure that the AP is used for entry rather than the 14 day tickets.
