Mobile Palo dinner to avoid frozen night? !

Hi all,

We are on the Disney Magic in a few weeks time and I’m trying to decide whether to keep our Palo dinner reservation.

We haven’t eaten in Palo since having the children - over 16 years ago - partly because we have always had the boys with us and partly as I’m not great at paying extra for food when I’ve already paid for it once! Lol!

DH and I aren’t particularly foodies (we don’t like the look of any of the antipasti or starters and DH doesn’t like fish), so looking at the menu, I can imagine I would be trying a couple of the pasta courses, he would opt for the Filet steak and then we’d both definitely opt for the amaretto and chocolate soufflés (assuming they have both on the Magic?) as they are the main reason I’ve booked Palos!

We’ve also coincided the booking to avoid the Frozen menu as we’ve had that before and tbh none of it appeals.

My cousins are travelling with us this time and are looking forward to having dinner alone with our boys I think, so I’m now wondering whether DH and I should avoid both Palo (is it worth the $80 upcharge if we only eat the things above?) and the dining room (so that the cousins can spend the night with the boys), and DH & I just eat at Cabanas instead?

What would you guys do?

I'm guessing we are on the Magic at the same time. Is the Frozen menu that bad

I would love to try Palo but I'm really fuzzy so would probably go for more the brunch if it was an option. I know they are hard to book. We won't be able to eat in there for a while because of the kids.

To be honest if I was worried about the menu I wouldn't spend the money. I would consider room service too as I do love a room service treat lol Doesn't Cabanas serve food from the main restaurants in the evening? Would that mean that too would also have the Frozen menu items on it?

Cabanas will have the Frozen menu yes, so room service or top deck would be the choices for different food.

Is it worth it? Only you can say if filet steak, pasta dishes and some desserts are worth $80 to you. I'd be second thinking it too if I'm honest, but we prefer brunch as I can 'pick' more.

How about cancelling Palo, eating on the top deck then sitting in the hot tub in peace for a while?

Joa

I wouldn't bother with Palo - way overrated IMO.

We tried it - service was OK but not outstanding. The food was no different than the main dining rooms, in fact the next night the same dish I had was on the menu in the main dining room!

The desserts were a step up, but we're not dessert people so didn't really make up for a so so meal.

I'd have a bigger lunch and just do top deck later on.

I see it as paying twice, I know it's an upcharge & totally optional but I've already paid for our meals so won't be paying more. Plus I'm a veggie so never get decent value out of expensive meals.

Top deck sounds like a good plan.

I get what you say about paying twice, but to say you never get decent value? At Palo, there are 6 starters, 3 of them veggie. There are then 4 main meals, plus you can choose to have any of the meat/fish dish without the meat/fish or without the sauce if it's just that that's not veggie. I kind of understand what you mean, but Palo is really very good with veggies (as are most Italians)
I'm a veggie too, an awkward one who's allergic to onions, peppers and spices and believe me, that makes it really hard to find stuff, but the folk at Palo will bend over backwards to help. (as will the folk in the MDRs too).

So despite agreeing with everyone’s comments on here about why we should cancel Palo, I think we are going to give it a try. 😂

I think it will be a good opportunity for DH & I to have some couples time (something we rarely do as we spend all of our time on holiday with our boys really, and as we know they will be having a great time without us, I think we will try and make the most of it!) 👍

I’m thinking that we will go for the experience as much as for the food, and it will be an opportunity to broaden our palette and try new things! Well that’s the plan at least!

Thank you for all of your replies - they’ve been really helpful 👍
