Upgrading to Universal Annual Pass
Hi there’s lots of threads on this but I’m still confused. I have the Universal 14 day 3 park ticket and intending to use it for 2 weeks from 14 September. I go every year for 2 weeks around that time of the year but can be flexible on dates, i.e. can go a bit earlier. Is it worth an upgrade to an AP and can I do it on the last day of my 2 week visit this year and still get any sort of discount towards the AP? Thanks.

It doesn't matter what day you upgrade to an annual pass as it will count from the first day you used your ticket, unless there is a special offer on. So if your first use is 14th September, then it will expire on 14th September the following year.

If you can fit two holidays within the year then it probably is worth it. In May we upgraded our 14 day tickets to a Seasonal annual pass (the lowest tier with the most block-out dates and no free parking or discounts) for about $50 each, as we're going back next April. This is a bargain compared to the cost of buying another 14 day ticket, so long as you're not planning to travel during peak times when the block-out dates apply (Xmas, Easter, summer).
We upgraded on the 1st day we used our 14 day tickets. Presumably, the fewer days you have left on your 14 day ticket, the less they would take off the value of the annual pass?

Not the case, you still get full value but expiry is 12 months from first use 👍

No reason not to upgrade on first day, if you upgrade on last day you have "lost out" on discounts & free parking ( for those AP that include it)

I bought the seasonal ap last year outright as it was cheaper than the 7 and 14 day ticket. Though in the grand scheme of things it worked out more as about to head out for the third time in 12 months so lots of money on flights.
However I would have spent the money on something Upgrade on the 1st day to get the discounts, these vary with the different tiers. You just need to work out what suits you

We upgraded to annual passes on the last day of our holiday in July. We had the 14 day 3 park ticket we had purchased in the UK. As we are returning in May next year we were able to upgrade to the seasonal pass as we are not impacted by the blockout dates but for this reason we had to upgrade on our last day otherwise we wouldn’t have had access during our July holiday. We only paid $25 each to upgrade which was less than we expected.

It’s definitely worth it if you can two holidays out of it. We upgraded in May to the seasonal pass for $49 plus tax each. It will probably be cheaper in September as the exchange rate has gotten worse.
They take the value in $ of the 14 day explorer not what you have paid. I did it at rpr and paid for the upgrade with my Amex so we also have access to the lounge in US. It’s small but has free water and crisps. Also a good point to note you actually get a year and one day. Our first day of use this year was 27th May. Our pass expires at midnight on 27th May. We fly out on the 19th May next year so will get eight full days. Definitely better than buying new tickets. |

Also does anyone know if you have to activate your ticket before it can be upgraded?
