I do like your theory so fingers crossed

We did toy with the idea of banking our 2020 points into 2021 UY and rent them out but with a Feb UY I think we'll just use some during 2021 and the rest for our holiday in January 2022 with our friends, will mean we don't need to borrow from 2022 then.

We have the same dilemma as we normally go to WDW Oct/Nov for three weeks by borrowing for the next years points. We have had to rethink 2021 holiday and now looking at May 2022 with our fingers crossed that 50% restriction will be a thing of the past.
We costed 2 rooms for 1 week in case the restrictions are still in place and this will add another £2000 to our hols at today’s prices. 😩😩😩

I do understand there have to be some restrictions to manage this horrible situation though, I wouldn't want to be the one setting the rules.
I think that too, it would have seemed better to stop those points but I suppose they make money!

My daughter and I sat trying to plan next years trip, we were hoping for a grand villa as we are taking both our adult kids and their partners so wanted the room and had plenty of points but with the 50% rule we got very confused so had to write everything out on a piece of paper! Have had to think about a 2-bed instead which is OK but not what we had set our hearts on as it is probably going to be our last trip as a family for a few years.

Does anyone know how Disney would treat a transfer in of points as another family member has offered to cover any shortfall if the 50% rule still in play.
We would then transfer our points back to them when they become available Aug 2022.

Can't see any issue with that

Baring this in mind do you think it's a bad time to buy? We are considering buying a small amount of points at OKW for us to go at at a low season every 2 years. We plan to go next September so it made sense to take the cost of that accommodation off the cost of DVC

Sort of catch 22, with no ROFR then it would be easier to slip a silly offer under the table but this is offset by the poor FX rate- currently on a "good"day you might get $1.25! We thought that it was bad when our offer was accepted at $1.76 but then dropped to $1.44 when the balance was due You'd bite their hands off for $1.44 now!

Hard to say, the optimist in me says end of '21,by then they are going to be hoping that the majority of those extra points are out of the system, to go longer just increases that time frame as those without enough points will Bank into the following year. For us we have some points that have been Banked from '20( I could probably get these returned to '21 as they were borrowed) if we then can't borrow for our '22 holiday, I'll just Bank my full allocation into '23 IYKWIM but if everyone does that then they have created their own problem because the rule only affects Borrowing

It’s a bit hard to take especially us UK owner who borrow more than the 50% and go every other year. Fingers crossed it will have disappeared before my booking window for 2120
