Tipping on credit card

Hi,
I'd prefer to pay restaurant bills with my chip and pin credit card. Are you able to add the tip on to the bill when putting in your pin like a lot of places at home where the device asks if you'd like to leave a tip?
If using cash, do people take lots of cash with them or do you use cash machines?

Thanks

You can pay bill using chip and pin. They usually take the card away though.

Why do they take it away? I've only ever had a chip and pin cc.

So they bring the bill, you write on the amount in tips, they take it away, then bring it back for you to sign?

So you don't use your pin?

Mostly. There are very few places that have the machines they bring to you.

This a huge country, costs millions of dollars to replace all the equipment. It's happening, but slowly.

I used my Card in Publix, Walmart (had to be dragged there) Ralph Lauren and Hilfiger. All had chip and pin.
As ILHO says the investment for the financial institutions and the retailers is enormous.
