TV programme last night

Did anyone see the first part of the tv programme that was on last night where they had 4 year olds going into the elderly care home and the positive effects it appeared to have for everyone. It was really delightful and a fantastic idea. I really hope this takes off (and the PC / health and safety brigade don't have their tuppence worth to add!)

Our 2 year old Granddaughter is always welcomed at DH aunties care home they all make a big fuse over her they sit with her trying to teach her how to drawer and she loves it as it is set up like a nursery with different tables like crafts, drawing and yes theres toys. The thing our granddaughter does is say hello to all of them by there doors and they all come out she get them to take her to the fishes and budgies. Its so nice as some of the other residents say she makes her day when she visits and one old lady alway put her hands on her heart and smiles and says she loves her bless her she as no other visitors.

We used to go and visit a family friend in a nursing home. Everyone loved talking to my toddler. He enjoyed it too.

I watched and really enjoyed it - what a change in the group. Looking forward to the second episode.

Our local care home has a special coffee morning once a month where mum's are welcome to bring their babies in. The residents get the joy of cuddles with babies and can pass on their words of wisdom to the new mum's. I think it's a wonderful idea. They also have a dog coffee morning too.

A good program can't wait for tonights. How happy were the old people to have some interaction with the children?

The nursery my children attended have a program called "Grandbuddies" were the children have the opportunity to visit the nearby care home for several weeks and spend time storytelling and singing older songs and nursery rhymes with the residents.

It is extremely popular with the residents and the children. They make an extra visit at Christmas for Carol singing and some residents attend the Nativity play.

Their primary school are now becoming involved, with social history, were the pupils ask the residents about their childhood, starting work and the beginning of their married life. It is an eye opener for most of the children!

For some residents, unfortunately, it is the highlight of their week and their only visitors.

Such a worthwhile thing to do. The change in the older people was huge. I was nearly sobbing when the children left but happy to see they still visit.

I was acare home manager in a small rural community I encouraged and made sure families knew that we were open all hours .We had new babies on the way home from hospital regular visits from the play group nursery and school and family dogs We even had
Staff member on days off come up on there horses or with there working gun /sheep dogs
I encouraged total community involvement unfortunately the red tape and financial implications no longer make small community homes non viable
