Enjoying following along, we just returned from our Croatia trip yesterday so looking at your sunny Greek photos is helping me get over the holiday blues. Mykonos is on my to visit list as Shirley Valentine is a big favourite of mine too 😃

Time to leave stunning Mykonos and head to Naxos. I had booked all the ferry tickets in the U.K. A while ago. This time of year it isn't really needed peak summer months definitely a good idea. This ferry booking was cancelled before we travelled by the agent Ferries gr. The ferry was taken out of service for the season. The refund took a few emails andca couple of weeks. I rebooked online the night before we left Mykonos and used travel.viva.gr. there's a choice of ways and speeds to go. Slow ferry takes 1:5 hours faster more expensive takes 30mins. We opted for sea jets catamaran 40mins €32 each. We collected tickets from the booth on the quay and they charge €1 each to print them.

40 mins later and we arrived in Naxos. The ferrys literally pull in load and gone. Walked just up from the port and plenty of taxis and the bus terminal. Asked the taxi driver how much the bus was to Agios Propokis €15. We could of have got a bus €1.80 each but didn't fancy the mither. Bus tickets in Naxos have to be bought from the supermarkets or bus terminal booths. The driver got another couple to share our taxi which was fine. I booked 4 nights her at Hotel Semeli. It was €214 for the two of us. Fancied longer here as I knew it was quieter.
[APP]https://www.thedibb.co.uk/postImages/24804/ea521e3ca463c5.jpg[/APP We had a ground floor room which I'm not much of a fan of it' was basic clean and functional. The bathroom was modern with a wet room style shower a tad lethal when wet 😆 Again no kettle in the room bit we had taken one remembering Greek hotels often don't have coffee making facilities in. The staff were all very friendly. Edited at 12:04 AM. |

all looks very lovely - really am regretting booking Florida instead of Kefalonia which was my original plan as I did really want to go back to Greece.

Naxos was the island I was really looking forward to the most and it didn't disappoint. From pulling into the beautiful harbour area, walking through the old town, the stunning beach at Agios Propokis to the villages it was stunning. Loads to do wind surfing beach horse riding kayaking sailing if that's your thing. We opted not to hire a car or moped again and use the buses. The hotel advertised an island trip that meant a full day visiting 3 traditional villages and time spent on a beach in the North. For €75.00 each 😬 We choose to get the buses to two of the villages they stopped at. For the first leg we grabbed tickets from the supermarket near our hotel for €1.80 each into Naxos Town. Most of the buses go from the port area to other areas of the island. In the ticket office we then bought tickets to Filoti and then on to Apeiranthos and back to Naxos town. The lady in the ticket office was really helpful and wrote the bus numbers and times on the tickets for us. The whole day's travel cost €10 euros each.
Filoti main area. Not as much to see here but pretty place to grab a drink and people watch. It was worth the trip here to just look in Greek Arkwrights. The shop was a real aladins cave. Apeiranthos was beautiful. Loved it here. An area of quaint cobbled streets no cars and stunning views. Edited at 11:56 PM. |

Naxos looks beautiful. I am enjoying seeing your photos, it all looks so unspoilt by tourism compared to many other European countries

Naxos really is a gem busy in parts but nothing like the mass tourism of Mykonos & Santorini. There's busier parts but I really have fallen in love with Naxos.

Back to Naxos town for a wander round the harbour area and old town. The harbour has a line of bars and restaurants dotting with a few tacky gift shops. We came back to sit here on our last day in Naxos waiting for our ferry to Santorini as do most people. I loved the old town. Lovely quaint white washed cobbled streets and some nice shops.
