I saw the research for cetirizine when it was launched comparing drowsiness to placebo (double blind trial, neither doctor nor patient knows which they are getting). Slightly more people in the placebo group complained of drowsiness than the cetirizine group.
It's all in your head I promise you!

I’m another one that uses Fexofenadine which doesn’t make me drowsy. It works most of the time but when the pollen count is VH, I do have to take some Chlorphenamine on top which does knock me out but is a welcome relief from the constant sneezing, itchy eyes and nose and coughing fits. Hate hay fever with passion.

It should not be making you drowsy...could your iron be low? I suffer from anemia from time to time which had be hitting a wall the same time as you.

Another vote for a nasal spray here, it was the answer for my husband. Keep the tablet going and use something like beconase, keep using it as it has a build up effect.
Good luck

DS uses loratadine but also uses Haymax when pollen is high. It's similar to the Vaseline idea I suppose but doesn't look as shiny! It's a little pot of barrier balm that you apply under eyes and nostrils and really helps him. From Boots, but can get cheaper online

Fexofenadine is the only one which does not make me drowsy at all, even when GP prescribed me two a day for an agonisingly itchy allergic rash. Cetirizine knocks me right out, if I take it before bedtime I really struggle to wake the next morning.
Fexofenadine is prescription only in UK but can be bought in Walmart, although quite expensive.

I was anemic in March training for my marathon and still take iron now (3 a day) so can’t be that, but thank you! Will try the nasal spray xx

I'm just drowsy in the afternoons anyway. 10 min nap and I am good to go. Luckily I am not working at mo but may be a problem when I am working! Not a great sleeper at night,a slight noise wakes me up...

I'm taking loratadine, but this year is much worse than it has been in years. Tablet is usually enough, but I had to get some nasal spray and eye drops this morning as I am really suffering.

I am feeling drowsy, but only since my symptoms have increased, so I'm thinking that the drowsiness is actually linked more to body fighting the pollen.
