Clothes/make-up etc. Best to buy in NY or Orlando?

We are going to NY for 4 nights then doing an internal flight to Orlando.

Where would it be best to but nice make-up,clothes,nice pair of sunglasses and shoes, you know the usual? I'm thinking of 'names' not cheapest and cheerfullest! Well obviously as cheap as poss!

For DD I'm assuming the surfer type clothes Quiksilver,Paul Frank etc. would be cheaper in Orlando? Then again Quiksilver clothes for one seem to have a pre-priced label on them that looks like they are not priced by the individual shops so maybe they cost the same anywhere.

I don't know what the sales tax is in Florida and NY would that make any differnece to the cost?

Thanks in advance

Florida Mall!

I think they have a Saks Department store which sells amongst others - Mac make-up which is great!

I'm sure you could find pretty much everything you crave at the Mall at Millenia too - but i haven't been yet. I think alot of Dibbers don't like it because it's pricey but i think i'll have to have at least one look!

as a general rule New York City is more expensive than anywhere else in the country, so I would probably get most thingsin Orlando, but you have to visit Macys, and Saks and Bloomingdales, just because they are there!

Having been to both, I would say you will pay more in NY for clothes than in Orlando(for the same thing). They do have great choices In Macys though! .

Bloomingdales is VERY expensive(all designer names if you want it).
IMHO i would buy all your bits in Orlando, and just get a couple of bits(one offs in NY)

Been to both and would definitely wait for Orlando to go shopping. However, if you are looking for something a bit different, then NY is the place to be.

That probably doesn't help at all really, but either way both places are fantastic!

Thanks a bunch for your advice, you've confirmed what I suspected Unless I see something really different I HAVE to have I'll wait for Orlando

Both kids have $300 of their own given by relatives and saved up,this is quite a lot and is burning a hole in DD (age 16 ) pocket.I will have to convince her to hang on to it until Orlando!

Oh forgot, the best buy in NY is the obligatory NYPD T-Shirt! You can get them for less than $10 and I don't care how tacky people say they are!

Also handy for when you are in Florida.

Kazzie,

I live in NYC and it really depends on what you're looking for. If you will have access to a car in Orlando there are several outlets down there and you can certainly get designer clothing and shoes at good prices.

The thing about shopping in NYC is you can find anything and everything. There's a vibe that just doesn't exist in Orlando. Also, the seasons are changing and here in NY we have fall and winter clothing in the stores. I'm not sure how much winter gear is available in FL but your sure to find summer and suppose fll stuff their.

I'm not sure what the tax is in FL but in NYC it's 8 5/8%.

If you will be in NYC a week or two from now Macy's should have there Christmas section completed. That is a must see. Also the following are a few spots I would take my London cousins to if they were in town:

Sephora - One stop make-up and perfume retailer. One of the bigger ones is in Times Square.

Illuminations - The most fab candle shop I know. They change the stock with the seasons. The candles smell devine and last for quite some time. Theyare a great value.

Victoria's Secret - A great shop for undergarments and pj's. The cotton underwear are a good price and wash well. There's a shop across the street from Macy's at 34th Street.

In Orlando if you have a car go to TARGET. It's the best one stop shopping around. They have everything! Clothing, housewares, drugstore items, shoes, books, toys, food items and the list goes on. Just walk the isles. You will find stuff you didn't know you needed. Clothing wise they have two budget designer lines from major designers: Mossimo and Izaac Mizrahi.

I hope you and your family have a safe trip and that this info is useful.
