Please can someone explain Apple TV to me

I don’t get it. I’ve bought a new iPad which comes with a free subscription for a year so I thought I would have a little look. All the films I’ve clicked on so far, you have to pay to rent or buy them. Am I doing it right? I thought I would be able to watch some Christmas films but it seems not.

I think it’s a bit like Amazon prime there is some things that are included and other things you need to pay for

To be honest I’ve only found 2 series worth watching on there - The Morning Show and Defending Jacob.

I won’t be continuing the subscription once the free year is up.

TED LASSO (one of the best shows available right now, even if you hate football like i do), fraggle rock: rock on!, mythic quest: ravens banquet (the lockdown episode was AMAZING!), the beastie boys story, on the rocks (bill murray and rashida jones in a sofia coppola movie) and mariah careys christmas special

just a few to get you started (the morning show is good too, but the newsroom did it better)

Its like normal TV in functionality but costs about 2 to 3 times as much but never goes wrong & last at least 10 years unlike normal TV, come in a nice sleek box as well as looking much cooler when watching in say your local costa...

I got it free with an iPad as well. We’ve watched the morning show but haven’t found anything else to with (although defending Jacob looks interesting )

I got it free with my iIPAD as well and yet to find any tho ring worth watching on it - same with amazon prime (I get for delivery only) - I have found more than enough to watch on Sky, YouTube and Netflix and don’t bother with the rest that I already have (and find are mainly junk)

There are some shows that you can watch as part of the AppleTV subscription without paying extra. However, there isn't a great choice - I think there's only about a dozen (the only thing that interests me is the Charlie Brown / Snoopy stuff ).

Compared to Netflix or Amazon Prime, it's pretty poor and not worth paying for (IMO).

Just for clarity, there are the following:

AppleTV device - apple/uk/shop/buy-tv/apple-tv-hd/32gb - used to stream content to your TV, as well as play games and access other apps on your big screen.

Apple TV app - apple/uk/apple-tv-app/ - An app for iPhones, iPads and Apple TVs that consolidates streaming services as well as being the gateway to exclusive Apple TV+ content.

Apple TV+ - apple/uk/apple-tv-plus/ - this is the thing you have a free year's subscription to. You access it via the Apple TV app (above), but need to find the exclusive content which is mixed in with other content, including some you have to pay for. If you scroll down on the iPad you should see a big panel which shows Apple TV+ content, the likes of...

- Billie Eilish, The World's a Little Blurry
- Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special
- Wolfwalkers
- A Charlie Brown Christmas
- Ted Lasso
- Earth at Night
- Trying
- Tehran
- The Morning Show
- Becoming You

BTW and IMHO -the physical Apple TV remote control unit (touch sensitive area at the top you use to scroll through menus etc.) is the worst thing Apple have ever made as using it to control anything is an exercise in frustration!

I assume there is a knack - but I have yet to find it!
