Someone pretending to be my husband...

This is a strange one. My husband just had a call from a local carpet shop, with whom we placed an order for new flooring for our buy to let property - flooring which has been installed yesterday - telling him that someone has just called the shop, pretending to be my husband, and asking whether the floor will be fitted on Monday, as agreed?!

It was never scheduled for Monday; it was scheduled for Thursday and was indeed installed yesterday. We paid the fitter there and then, and called in to the shop to pay the outstanding amount in full.

The caller knew my husband's name and the property's address I can't think what anyone would gain from this call, but am rather troubled by the fact that someone is calling a business, pretending to be my husband.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Am I missing something in how this could potentially develop into something more sinister or is this just very odd?

I would be more likely to think that there is some genuine confusion, as no one would gain anything whatsoever by pretending to be your husband and arrange to have a floor fitted that has already been fitted and paid for.

Do you have a manager for your BTL or a new tenant?

Thanks, that's just what I thought!

No, it's a new one I just recently acquired and have been doing up. I manage it myself.

I would also be thinking along these lines. Is somebody due to move in soon? Perhaps they wanted to check up on promised works and got the dates mixed up. I cannot see how it would be anything sinister.

Thank you Claudette. I have yet to advertise the property so no prospective tenant yet, but I too am hoping this is just a confusion.

Maybe the person who rang the shop had a similar name and the shop got the two people confused? Hopefully, it’s just a genuine mix up.
