Tipping in Sweet Tomatoes?
Hi all,
I have tipped in Sweet Tomatoes when the 'server' has been attentive in clearing away plates and generally pleasant usually $1 a person from memory so tipped $4. On other occasions when the server has just left a few plates and not been back and given that's it's a serve yourself place I haven't tipped. What do other people do in buffet places like Sweet Tomatoes? |

Why do you feel the need to tip? If you were in a mcdonalds over here and the cleaner cleared the table of your tray, drink etc, would you tip then?
We've just come back and for me the tipping culture is getting worse and worse. Expecting a tip, when I go to a counter to order, then collect the food myself etc is beyond me. Is it just me? |

We leave a couple of $$ on table as we leave.
We don’t tip at the counter. |

I'm quite happy to follow the generally accepted tipping convention in the likes of Longhorn, Texas, Carrabba's etc. within the usual range depending on the quality of service.
I'm even happy to leave a couple of dollars after breakfast at Golden Corral because they are usually efficient with coffee refills and clearing you table. However in our single visit to ST last April we never saw a server from arriving to leaving. Dirty main plates, soup and dessert dishes were still on our table when we left. I didn't leave a cent. Mick

It’s not like McD though, it’s a buffet with small plates and soup bowls so they “should” be clearing plates throughout your meal. I clear my own things away in fast food restaurants...
To the OP, I’d leave $4 or $5 on the table for the four of us in Sweet Tomatoes.

We leave $5 for the 4 of us... always found the folks clearing the tables to be nice and friendly / chatty...we look them out when we are finishing and hand it to them rather than leave on the table
Always good value and good food at ST...one of our favorites |

We always leave at least a dollar per person in sweet tomatoes, and the servers usually are grateful for it. We see Americans doing the same. We've always had good service there and often had comments about how clean our plates are, as we only take what we are going to eat. Not all customers do this!
