Anyone have a Loft Conversion?
We are receiving some money in April so have decided to have our loft converted. We were originally going to have it done 10 years ago but didn’t have the spare money at the time and made do without it.
We were going to have 2 bedrooms and a bathroom up there for our eldest 2 boys but now the kids are older we have decided to have our bedroom, a bathroom and dressing room up there. Have any of you lovely dibbers had this done? Any do’s or don’ts? Any photos for inspiration would be great! |

This is what we’re planning so I’d also love to see some pictures and get some info.
We’re also thinking bedroom, en suite and dressing room - great minds think alike! |

No yet, but following with interest as this is something we want to do asap. We want to add 2 extra bedrooms and a bathroom (we have 4 children- 3 of them teenagers now who need own space), but we only have 3 bedrooms.

We have a bedroom and bathroom in the loft, but now we are empty nesters one end of the loft is reverting to storage but it still has usable bunk beds at the door end. The bathroom was going to be ensuite but it worked out better space wise for them both to have their own doors off a small square landing.

This is a local company to me and they dominate the market in Cardiff.
They have some great photos on their website for those wanting ideas. Bear in mind the fastest way to have a conversion is to cover the entire house in scaffolding and tarps and take the roof off. galleryloftconversions/

I would love to have our loft done, but we have so much stuff up there!
Are we the only ones to have a loft full of teddies, baby clothes, xmas stuff etc? Where are you going to put it?! |

Yes. I’ll have a look through my photos.
We had to have the ceilings lowered in the downstairs bedroom and the mess from this was unbelievable. If you can move out/go on holiday for a few weeks during the messiest part, I think that’s a great idea to do that. |

Son has one, a large bedroom and bathroom added to a victorian semi, its lovely. Like all modern loft conversions it gets very hot in summer. Building regs mean they have to have a lot of insulation and that means they heat up.
My son had it done by a company who do lots around here, they are a group of northern guys who work here all week and go home at weekends. They have established a great buisness in an area where they can charge more and have great demand. The good thing is they have converted multiple lofts in the area so know the houses and the pitfalls, they are great skilled tradesmen. |

Here you go:
This final picture is my son’s bedroom that was lowered. You can see that there is still a good height to the room after the conversion. The room next door which was originally our bedroom was also lowered. It only took about a day to lower tip out the ceilings and almost four months in total to get from day 1 to completed with all rooms decorated. We have storage at the side of the en-suite which is not shown in the pictures but it’s a great space for storing Christmas decorations/suitcases etc. It cost about £27,000 (In 2013) in total (Yorkshire) and everything was done for us apart from the painting and the wooden floor (we put that in). You need fire doors along your escape route and wired smoke alarms. I nearly had heart failure at the cost of replacing all the door handles for the new doors.😂 My thoughts are a bit jumbled- I’m just writing them as they pop in to my head so apologies for that. Hope it helps.👍🏻 |

We have a bedroom and ensuite in our loft, definitely shop around for quotes we used a company who had done one previously on our estate. We have a dormer on the back of the house and a skylight on the front. Ours only took 3 weeks with them working Monday to Friday it is definetley a massive job and try to not have it done in the winter we had ours done during a very cold November.
