Skip rubbish thieves

We did a clear out and hired a skip. We bagged up tons of stuff and put it in the skip all nice for pick-up. Finished about 3.00 this afternoon. Looked out at 7.00 and somebody has ransacked it. Bags all busted apart, everything out of bags, things missing, a total mess. Does this happen all the time? What is worse is it was full so we had arranged it so it was ok. Now it’s a mess. I suppose it is just how quick it happened. I am shocked.

Happens all the time. Just be thankful you haven't been gifted 3 mattresses!

Yes, it’s a common thing.
Aka - skip rats 🐀 albeit not a very nice term.
They’re after metal to sell on.

Why would anyone want anyone
else’s chucked out crap!

I could see some oxygen thief chucking stuff in a skip they haven’t paid for, but why would anyone take from a skip? x

Copper gets a fiver a kilo round here, and steel/aluminium 50p a kilo. There's money in scrap.

Surely though it's better that people take stuff (be it scrap metal to sell or something to reuse) than it all goto landfill.

When I was helping my mother fill a skip only real waste went into the skip first. Everything else that could be usable was stacked around it & photos posted on freegle & Ollie saying it was all free to collect. So much was gratefully taken that we didn't even fill the skip!

As long as they don’t dump it out of the skip on to your drive or fill it with their crap. Sadly it happens.

Mess with one of my skips and you will probably end up having a tetanus jab from timber with nails in or broken glass!

They are out of luck. No copper, just toys, old books, cut down tree, lots of cuddly toys, old videos/DVDs, stuff like that. The girls are 22 and 24 so cleaned out the toy room. We kept the good stuff to give to charity. Mind you, if they dug deep there are a few great toys like Barbie dolls and accessories all in good condition. Didn’t keep for charity as they are the old ones.
