Mobile Yosemite accommodation and when to book

We’ve thought about a west coast trip for at least 6 years now. Find the whole planning of it overwhelming though and every time we start planning it we end up changing plans and going back to Florida 🙈. Tentatively looking at 2021 restricted to school summer holidays. I believe Yosemite accommodation fills up early so wondered how far in advance people recommend booking and where’s best to stay - 2 adults and 2 children.

We booked last week, I think it was the 3rd sept for 5-7 sept next year so pretty much a year in advance. Even then the accomodation I wanted wasn’t available and I had to book something else!

We are staying at curry village in a stoneman room. We wanted a cabin with bathroom and when they weren’t available it was either for for the stoneman room or go for the valley lodge hotel.

Hi - book as early as you can to stay in the park (booking opens a year in advance by month - so at start of sept this year you can book to end sept next year).

If you have to go in the summer then definitely try to stay in the park. There are probably better accomodations options (and cheaper) outside but the traffic into and around the valley at peak times could have a negative impact on your stay.

Hi again for your stay we would suggest 3 n as the minimum. The day you arrive it will be lunchtime , suggest valley floor tour 2 hours which is great for getting your bearings and a little history. Main things to do, walk to el capitan, do the walk up to vernal falls and back via john Muir trail, glacier point and one of our favourite parts tioga pass 10,000 ft with snow on July . We would also suggest you watch the films, the dawn wall and free solo , incredible what these guys do.

We stayed in a cabin in Yosemite west and found it a great location. Altho not in the valley, it was easy to drive to glacier point and marposa grove, and was still within the park so didn't have to navigate park entry everyday when going to the valley floor. It was beautiful and very quiet. You do need to remember to take enough food with you for the stay as there are no shops. Would happily stay there again.
