Do you get to see the conversion rate before completing the transaction? So you can work out how much GBP will be deducted before committing?

I have a Starling account but haven't really used it yet. Fully planning to use it for the whole trip instead of loading my FairFX card though. Sounds so much simpler.
No you don't see the rate until you pay

Hi, can you open this account as a second one or do you have to have wages paid in and direct debits coming out? i wanted one that I could transfer a certain amount into just to use on holiday, I don't want a Thomas Cook or other holiday company card.

Even though it’s a normal current account there’s no need to have any direct debits or wages paid in. You can easily just transfer money when you want.

Thank you, I suppose I could Google the exchange rate before buying!

You can set it up without depositing anything and just keep it until you need it. Mine was empty for ages and now just has £1 in it from a test transfer from my main account. I'll load it up closer to the time.

Best to use the MasterCard currency converter as that will give the exact rate you will receive when using the card. mastercard.us/en-us/cons...-currency.html
