Tokyo 2020

We were thinking about heading out to Tokyo at Easter 2020, but I have now realised that the Olympics are happening in the summer. Do you think that it will effect what is going on in or around Tokyo in the run up to the event?

How long between you being there and them starting?

Easter - May time and I think the Olympics are in August, as read stories about people asking why have it the hottest time of year!

I think the benefits of the upgraded travel / signs etc in the city would be amazing and a real bonus. They are also getting more English speaking helpers out and about in the city to help travellers. Plus is early enough to miss the crowds coming to Olympics

Think it could be a great time to go personally, what do others think?

We saw some signs up about the Olympics already. I really don’t think it will affect your trip at all in a negative way. I would definitely recommend Easter rather than summer based on the weather I’ve experienced. It is hot and sticky in August.

I think Easter would be fine but do try and avoid Golden week at the beginning of May.

Sorry, just seen the replies - thank you for taking the time. It would be April as it is another late Easter in 2020. I think I am in panic mode as it seems such a big trip to organise and it would definitely be a once in a lifetime (unlike the last time I said that about Orlando!)

My view for what it is worth when it comes to planning.

Spend some time research what you WANT to see / do when there, the things you would LIKE to see / do if you had time.

Immerse yourself in some YouTube channels - I can tell you the ones I am watching if that helps - to help firm up your ideas.
