Cruising from Fort Lauderdale - flights?

Hi there

We are cruising from Fort Lauderdale next January, we would be flying from London, where should we fly into?

Looking for making the trip as easy as possible at the other end to get to the port, but I know we will need at least one night prior, so not sure which airport would be best to give us easy(ish!) access to hotel/things to do before boarding the next day.

Hoping you can help with advice/experiences.

Thank you

Gemma

Hi

We have cruised from Fort Lauderdale a few times and have always flown Heathrow to Miami.

You can fly from Gatwick to Fort Lauderdale but we are nearer Heathrow airport and prefer the shorter distance from home to the airport, especially when returning to the UK.

The advantage of flying into Miami you can choose to stay in either Miami or Fort Lauderdale for your first night.

If you choose to stay in Fort Lauderdale, a lot of the hotels offer shuttle services to the port.

Hope this helps.

Tracey

We have cruised from Fort Lauderdale many times. We fly from Manchester so it’s indirect to either FLL or MIA depending on cheapest fare - this year we’ve done both. Our preference is FLL. We always have at least two nights pre-cruise in case of delays. We rent a car from the airport and drop off at Port Everglades (free shuttle to ship). Hotels in Miami and Fort Lauderdale are expensive in January though.
If you fly into FLL and not rent a car, a taxi to hotels in the 17th St area is about $16-$20 inc tip. Several hotels in this area have free shuttles to the port but a taxi would be very cheap.
Last month we stayed at the Nobleton Hotel and paid $349 for 3 nights.
There’s a lot to do in FL even without a car - the water bus is good and the Las Olas blvd area is worth exploring. The Sawgrass outlet mall is huge. In January we stayed in Miami and had a day in the Everglades NP but that is also doable from FL with a car.

Either Miami or FLL airports are fine. Last cruise we flew into FLL as the BA flights from Gatwick were cheap. We like both FLL and Miami to stay in a night or two beforehand.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply... now to to wait for the flights to be released I think,
I like the idea of FLL, but its good to know that either are do-able and I can look at price
Hopefully will then be able to find a deal on the hotel as well.
