Question Route 66

We are doing Route 66 for our honeymoon in September. Has anybody any words of wisdom you want to share?

We are doing LA - Chicago in a RV, there was no RV's available in Chicago for our dates so we agreed to do it in reverse and saved £800!

Make sure you stay in Sedona would be my advice- lovely place. Also if you stay in Flagstaff you can drive on a day trip to the best place to see the Grand Canyon - South Rim.

We did it in 2015 for our 30th wedding anniversary!
It’s absolutely fantastic we plan to do it again next year!
My advice would be to stick to only around 150 miles a day if you can,but this depends on how many days you are planning on doing the route
make sure you stock your car with bottles of water as you will be going through the desert.
The ez66 guide is brilliant I have heard there is now a sat nav Route

We went at the end of August
I packed mainly shorts and t shirts a couple of hoodies and crop jeans.
It gets very cold at night when you are on mountain time!
If you do a search on the dibb for Route 66 you will find more of my posts as well as others that have done 66!

If you click on the link below you can read my reports from 2010! Sadly I left the Dibb for a while ( shock, horror) and so the pictures have disappeared but it may give you some idea?
We did it the other way and started in April due to needing to be in school holidays at Easter. Chicago was freezing but by the time we got to Santa Monica it was lovely and warm so we had to pack for all weathers in small cases, amazing what you can do if you need to though.
My only comment would be to not expect much from Oklahoma and Missouri, there really isn’t a lot there

A couple of pics, the start

The finish:

We did some side trips to Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon and Death Valley as well, which we thought worth it.

You’ll see plenty of these along the way:

Make sure you stay In some real Route 66 motels, I can really recommend the Blue Swallow in Tucumcari and the Silver Saddle in Santa Fe (which I don’t seem to have a photo of).

Enjoy, you’ll have a great time
