Cheap time to book flights?
Is it cheaper to book flights as soon as they are released i.e. 11 months before?

My experience is definitely not! When my flights for September were released both BA & Virgin were over £600 Economy return. I simply kept checking and seeing the prices going up and down but not significantly. I was patient and kept an eye on things, then suddenly end of November BA fares dropped to £430 so I thought hmmm, but held off for a short while. Then I decided that BA seemed to be the best option (I usually use Virgin), then the day I was going to book checked again and bang BA fares had gone back up to £550 but Virgin had dropped to £415. Needless to say booked Virgin! For reference this was first week in December. It really is a case of being patient and jumping in when they drop to a price you are comfortable with. My experience always has been that when released the prices are always higher.

It depends.
I’ve found Thomas cook long haul on three occasions to be cheapest on release. They release much further than 11 months though. It’s my preferred airline so I can only say for them as virgin were always higher. Sometimes they drop but this was usually much nearer to flying out which is way too close for call as I like to be organised. Also limited to dates as kids in school so prices are best the day or day after they finish rather than further into the school holidays for direct Edited at 09:10 PM. |
