Excited about Disney

As with some of the others, we have stayed in various areas over the years but definitely now favour the Four Corners area. We enjoyed staying in Sunset Lakes a few years ago but for the last 3 visits we have stayed in Emerald Island Resort and are looking there for our next visit in 2020. The properties are close to Disney and not far from Interstate 4 which provides easy access to Universal, Seaworld and even Busch Gardens. Plenty of choices for eating to suit all budgets and a new Walmart just a few minutes away. Also, Emerald Island is a gated community with security gates manned 24/7.

We have stayed in the Kissimmee area, at Lake Berkeley and Bass Lakes. Nice area, but we prefer to be on the 27 near to the junction with the 192. We have stayed at Solana (very nice), but we prefer Highlands Reserve, as it’s very close to a Publix and a few restaurants and is also an easy drive to Disney. Takes about 20 minutes. There are communities listed as Davenport which are much further afield, best to check on the map and the communities north of the I4 but on the US27 are best imo. Davenport also feels more modern than the Kissimmee end of the 192, which can feel a bit run down.

I live in this area. It really is extremely close to the Animal Kingdom corner of Disney. There is no need to go further afield for "peace and quiet". Once you turn off 192 all the residential areas are pretty quiet.
Many posters mentioned the southern end of I Drive. This is a great location central to both Universal and Disney BUT all the places mentioned are condos or hotels not villas. As mentioned the condos are apartments with communal facilities not private houses. With 2 kids a condo might be fine or even a hotel 1 bedroom suite if the kids would be fine on a sofa bed. These can be much cheaper and often have restaurants etc within walking distance. There are loads of this type of place on Orlando. If you plan on spending alot of time relaxing though the space of a villa and private pool is hard to beat.

As others have suggested, we also like to stay off hwy27, Davenport area. It's an easy drive to Disney and a nice area to stay in, we have always felt safe. There are a publix and a Walmart in a very short drive. Berry town centre has restaurants and handy takeaways (mias pizza is our arrival night dinner).
