You could have the most amazing holiday in that part of the world!
Could fly in to Kuala Lumpur, spend a few days there and then head off to Langkawi for some gorgeous beaches finished off with orangutangs, jungle treks and caves in Borneo. Or... pop to Singapore or head off to Indonesia for some island hopping, Thailand and Vietnam are fairly close by too as are Laos and Cambodia... Maybe see what flights you can get and plan something from the stopovers offered? I love that part of the world! We stopped there as part of a backpacking trip through Malaysia, we went to the Perhentian Islands which were gorgeous - proper tropical island. Malaysian food was divine, amazing weather, some gorgeous cultural experiences, just heavenly! Happy planning!

We did KL - Borneo - Hong Kong.
KL - was ok but wouldnt return 3 nights Borneo - stayed at the Shangri La Tanjung Aru - beautiful - 7 nights Hong Kong - Traders - fantastic! - 3 nights In Borneo we didnt do the oranutangs (dont know why) but we did go on the North Borneo Railway for the morning Got to see the real borneo out in the country side - and had "tea and tiffin" on the return journey. We went to the sunday market and ate at the local under cover food market at night - the one we went to was just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. I'd be a bit more adventurous if we went back to Borneo and i'd love to go back for a longer trip to HK. Enjoy xxx |

Hi Katie- was the North Borneo Railway trip worthwhile? We are in Kota Kinabalu at the end of March on one of the days the train runs. Thanks for any help.

We loved it but our friends said it was a bit boring
If you have a half a spare day it was a good way to see some of the countryside up close. the biggest thrill for most people was seeing the steam engine on the turn table! The food was served in a 3 tiered "tiffin" tin and was really delicious. xxx |

We have booked to go to the Malaysian Sabah region, book ended by KL. Couple of nights at Sandakan to see the Orangutans and sun bears. Then kinabatangan river for a few days then the shang ril la resort. Can do the cities around them. We looked at the Maliu basin and the tabin reserves but not enough time. We Really wanted to go to the danun valley but way out of our price range sadly.
you could go to Sarawak and a couple of good national parks down there. You could visit Brunei? Visit the Indonesian area of the island? We are getting very excited now. Edited at 12:04 AM. |
