Las Vegas, New York and Washington - one trip?
So I’m still looking for inspiration for next years summer trip.
We want to go to New York and Washington but I’ve struggled with where to pair them with. Would Las Vegas be a viable option? Anybody done it? Would you recommend? Am I mad? Was thinking Vegas first to get the long flight out of the way, then fly to New York before driving to Washington. We’d then fly home from Washington. Would this order make the most sense? What do you think? Should I go back to the drawing board? |

Firstly, how long are you going for?
A few years ago we had 5 nights in New York with 1 night in Washington in the middle. We found that we saw enough in Washington, though a bit rushed. This year we are doing 5 nights Toronto and 5 nights NY. Personally I would look for another place to go on the East coast, and come back to the West another time when you can, then you can do San Francisco, LA etc together.

A few years ago, we flew into New York for 4 nights, then over to LA where we drove down to San Diego (5 nights) and Anaheim (4 nights) before flying home from LA. So if you have 2 weeks, I would say it’s doable.
If you live within easy reach of Heathrow, I would suggest doing the West Coast first, then returning from New York on a daytime flight - both BA and Virgin/Delta offer a daytime flight, and when we used this, we had no problem in driving back up the M40/M6 to Wigan after the flight due to the time differences working in our favour. We also had no problems with jet lag, again due to the time differences.

We’re normally away for 3 weeks in the summer so plenty of time available.
Was thinking at least 5 days in each place. |

We live inside the M25 so airport journeys are easy and not something we need to consider too much in terms of planning.

Very do able
I love combining different destinations like this. One of my favourites was Baltimore/Washington then Phoenix then Vancouver. If you have the time you could drive up into Pennsylvania into Amish country which is fascinating and a huge contrast . I would vote for the daytime flight from JFK to LHR though , land in the evening, home to bed and wake up with no jet lag whatsoever. It's fab especially for LHR "locals" Edited at 01:22 PM. |

We did a week in Washington. Internal flight to Vegas (via San Fran) for 5 nights then flew to Florida for 5 nights and flew home from Orlando. Was great! Internal US flights were all good, we flew virgin America with virgin miles a few years ago

We did 2 weeks in Orlando then 1 week in Utah ,internal flights in the US make visiting different states easy and cost effective. We covered 4 states in 24 hours on our last trip in 24 hours 😊

We've just booked 4 nights in Vegas then onto New York for 4 nights before flying home. We have previously combined New York, Cape Cod and Boston in one trip and would definitely recommend that.
