Mobile Help restoring iPhone to factory settings

I have just had DD18’s iPhone 6 repaired with the intention of giving it to DD11. However, it is set up to older DD’s iTunes account so still has all her stuff on it. I want to wipe it before I hand it over but it currently has no SIM card in it as DD18 is using the original sim / phone number in her new phone.

I’ve tried putting DD11’s own sim in the phone and it then tells me to sign in to DD18’s account but when I try it says it’s not been possible to sign in. I’ve checked with DD18 and the email address and password are definitely correct. Could it be because it’s got the wrong SIM card inserted? DD18 is reluctant to let me try her SIM in case I delete anything that she needs on her new phone - I don’t know if this is even possible!

I’ve tried googling for a solution but the only alternative way of resetting it that I can find involves connecting it to iTunes and
we don’t have a laptop thats running iTunes.

Please help! I’m a complete technophobe and it’s driving me mad. Will using the original sim solve the problem? If so, once the restore is done can I then swap the SIM cards back without affecting DD18s current phone?

You need to remove the iCloud account before you can reset it.

You can connect it to the Wi-fi if you don’t want to use a SIM card but it will need some internet access.

Your Older daughter just needs to log it in again, then you can reset it through the settings menu when it has WiFi
It won’t delete anything that is stored on the cloud, only the things that are stored on the actual phone.

Thanks both of you, I was at work when I read your replies this morning but tried it when I got home. The WiFi was turned off in settings. Once that was reconnected I signed out of DD’s account and it let me restore it without a SIM card. It’s all working fine now and DD11 is delighted with her “new” phone!
