Whoop whoop I managed to get the first two outbound flights so that’s me and Mr D on the LHR-DTW-MCO on Dec 14th.
Now I’ve just got to wait till next Thursday until I can try for the kids flights.

Booked 22nd to 2nd with Virgin, staying at POR, 5 adults. Not cheap, but it'll probably be the last time I go before having kids so want to make it special!

Getting Excited

Booked! Props to the op who began this thread.
Got dates that work well for me, no time out of school for my wife and the kids. BA Flydrive direct with them. 23/12/19 MAN - LHR - MIA 06/01/20 MIA - LHR - MAN 3 adults, 2 kids (15 & 9) Chrysler Pacifica or equivalent £2769 all in. £300 deposit, ATOL protected. Flight back is 23:20 (there were earlier options as well) which means we can get a lot done on our last day before heading back down to Miami. Think these are the cheapest flights I have ever had over the Christmas holiday period and completely within school hols. Extra Bonus: with the dates, we can squeeze in a couple of days at universal on our seasonal annual passes as the block out dates end on the 3rd Jan. Pretty much a freebie. 😀 Time to start planning how long we want to spend in Miami and booking a villa in Orlando for the rest.

Drive from Miami to Orlando area is about 4hrs depending on route. It is a pretty easy drive. Done it a few times now from both fort Lauderdale and Miami.
Generally we usually spend a day or 2 in Miami before driving up. That way you get to see 2 great places. This time the kids want to go straight up to Orlando so we will book a cheap airport hotel for the night we land (19:10 I think) and drive up early the next morning. Everyone is up really early those first few days with the time difference so I guess we will be in Disney before 11am the next day. Booking the late flight back means we can spend practically the whole of the last day in Orlando before heading down to Miami around 4pm. I would not let it put you off unless you really don't like driving.

So flights are coming up for our dates (23rd Nov - 16th Dec) @ £420 PP direct but we will have to pay for suitcases which I think is around £100 more.
We haven't flown since the new "classes" e.g. economy delight etc. so I think the upgrade includes seat choices (which we would usually pay for anyway) so I think £550 PP w/suitcases & seats is a pretty good deal!
