With Alamo you pick from a line of cars in the category you booked. If you do Online checkin and get a barcode on your printout, you miss out the desk and go straight to the garage.
Most cars have the keys in them, so you pick your car and go to the exit gate and hand over your printedpaperwork, your DL and a CC.. You have the option to fill up with fuel before you return, or pre pay for the fuel and take back at any level. The nearer empty the better. They will charge your cc on return of the car
Hope this helps

A few minutes usually.

Find one I like the look / shape of, see if Mrs S and the Boy like the colour, check the mileage then choose it.

Last year choice was very limited so picked a Santa Fe and was really very pleasantly surprised by it.

Ages - 15 mins - got to be a Florida plate (out of state reputedly more likely to be pulled over, might be a myth), preferably light in colour, needs to have electric tailgate and low mileage is nice - and no dings...oh yeah, and we like 2 keys, but that's not always possible. We might be a obsessive...we did also like the look of the Corvette convertible but didn't think our IKEA sink and cupboards would fit (having been shopping today - we are villa owners - we were right...they would NOT have fit in a convertible...)

We usually get a minivan so this time there were only Dodge Grand Caravans - but there's sometimes a Chrysler Pacifica which we prefer but it missed something above (probably not FL plate).

I did notice last night how many minivans were in the Economy and Compact rows so last night would've been good for a free upgrade for some folks

No point being

We take our time...

We choose one quite quickly, one of us stays with that car whilst the other checks out everything else in the line...

Once we've narrowed it down, we check out the mileage, gadgets etc

On one trip we did actually have our luggage in the boot of one and then had to unload as Hubby found a better model

People must think we are mad but we once picked a right dud and so now we take our time, a good 15 - 20 min

We did this twice at LAX in October! Haha. There was only a few cars in the Standard SUV line, all were terrible and actually Intermediate’s... Twice another car was brought round and twice we changed cars after already loading our luggage 😂

Presumably you can take the dud back and change it? If you can, do you have to take it back to MCO or can you change it at DCCC?

Hi,

Yes we did change it but I have to say that we did feel like we had to come up with a legitimate reason to change (not just that the car was smelly and grotty!), not sure if this was down to something Alamo said or just how we felt IYSWIM. Luckily a warning light came on a couple of days into the rental...

We actually went back to the airport to change it, can't remember if we asked to do the swap closer to home (we were staying in Kissimmee) but the trip to the airport was no biggie as we were due to visit a few malls anyway.

You can change at MCO, SFB and the CCC.

Technically you can change anywhere but they tend not to have spare stock.

Thanks, one more question if you don’t mind, how is best to go about upgrading? We are currently booked to have an intermediate car through TUI but I was planning on upgrading when I got there. Do you think it would be better to upgrade beforehand?
