Chard itself is naff, I know the lodges and they are lovely but I wouldn’t bother with Chard.
Lyme Regis is great, it’s beautiful and worth a visit. If you like fish there is a lovely restaurant called Hix, depending on the day you visit definitely make reservations. It’s on the hill looking over the cob. Ilminster is a fairly cute little town, not a lot to do but a nice walk around (you could walk from Ilminster to Dillington House which is nice). There’s an amazing restaurant in the town called Celandines. It’s absolutely tiny and family run but the food is incredible. Barrington Court is worth a visit (it’s a NT property). What kind of things do you want to do? I live in the area so will try and think of some things! What time of year would you be visiting? |

Thanks for the info, we are thinking late Sept, 2 old fogies who like quaint towns and villages. Nothing too strenuous the odd country house/castle and gentle walks by the sea.
Many thanks

Well you’ll definitely like all of my suggestions above. Make a trip to Honiton as well, that has some cute tea shops.
Axminster has well has some nice tea shops. You will probably really be spoilt for choice for quaint towns and Lyme is a great seaside to walk around |
