I watch things that are real so to speak.

Such as Game of Thrones and the Walking Dead.

Yes there were 2 suicides, all of these types of reality TV prey on people's mental health. JK is clear that people are coming on TV to be confronted , Love island / big brother pretty it up somewhat people thinking they are going to be famous, not fully understanding the trolling that they will suffer after the show. I think all these shows need to take greater responsibility in screening people's mental health and supporting them after the show. But also these programs only get made because of demand, and those who are self destructing are the one's I hear the girls in the office talking about with most interest

History/Discovery used to be so good now it's mostly fake reality shows. Shame

I agree some are now dumbed down but there is still some good stuff out there.

To be frank we actually don't watch more than maybe 90 mins of tv a day.

TV isn't what it used to be especially in families. We got our screen up and running the other day and watched an amazing planet programme together ...The kids started off with this is boring yet they choose to spend 'screen time' watching alone on their own devices some idiots on you tube. When watching it they were amazed with the facts and information hoping I can find more things like this to watch with them. It is a shame tv is now aimed at peoples misfortune rather than actually making good things.
If you like history a house through time on BBC iplayer is very interesting.

If you have Netflix the new David Attenborough series is stunning.

Also throwing out there The Repair Shop although it's now back on repeats on BBC One but if you haven't seen it before it's really heart warming TV. Not sure if it'll still be on iPlayer but 1900s house (Not sure if this is correct) but a family going through each decade trying to see what life was like.

Thanks Will check the repair shop out. I loved the programme of the family through time . Unfortunately we don't have netflix or any other additional tv service

I don't think they " prey on people's mental health " aren't they put through stringent interviews first ? They are that desperate to get on the programme that they will say anything to get through and be chosen , you could say the problem lies with social media more than the programme itself , some have gone on to do other shows and others have failed to gain the so wanted celebrity status that they had hoped to achieve, a lot of it is how they portrayed themselves on the show , Mike Thalassitis ( who recently committed suicide ) went on Love Island with the agenda of being the bad boy, it gave him a lot of air time but of course he was then known on social media as the villain , in real life it appears he was nothing like the character he led people to believe he was, we don't know if he was instructed to behave like that or if he went on there with the agenda of grabbing the most air time . It was his activity on social media and the trolling that followed that was his downfall, is the programme at fault or is it social media ? Was he high risk with mental health problems before going on the show , we don't know, programmes like this give people a platform to gain celebrity status, some do really well out of it, Mike sadly paid the price in the worst possible way .
