Just caught up with this thread...
When we did the DVC tour at WDW last Aug, the guide (salesperson) was keen to get us to sign up there and then, in a relatively low pressure way, that the Disney bank would lend us the money at 10%, but because we were buying real estate interest we could only do it whilst we were in Florida. Obviously we could get a better interest rate in the UK (and in fact we waited until we could buy outright). It was actually cleverly phrased to imply that we could only purchase DVC whilst we were in Florida, which is not true (glad they have internet in WDW!). I think he was probably accurate that Disney could only give us a loan/mortgage whilst we were physically present in Florida to sign. I'll just note from my research that if you have multiple smaller contracts (as advised above) you want to consider the possible benefits of ensuring that they all have the same use year month.
