The best way is to come to attention. March smartly to where they are and salute them
Then give them instructions to desist their unacceptable behaviour.

I should have known Mr Tom would have the obvious solution, thank you. 😂

We’ve had magpies around here for ages but last year one started tapping on the kitchen window or patio doors whenever the bird bath needed filled. Worked in my favour as when I was cutting the grass it started making a racket. When I turned around to see what it was up too I found it had retrieved one of the kids toys which had been stuck up on the roof.

Don’t feed the little blighters, they are very clever though.. they pluck the rose hips out of the wild roses without a care.. they will destroy any berry bushes in a matter of minutes. They fight with the crows up here on a regular basis and even take on the seagulls without a care. Cats stand little chance against them either the brutes just team up on the cats and dive bomb them. One of our neighbours starts feeding them recently only to have them go for her whenever she went out into the yard to put rubbish out or laundry.. she’s learning not to trust them or feed them now. A good tough mess netting will hopefully keep them out .

I don't feed them but they must find something they like in my garden because there's often lots here feasting on something! I'm keeping windows and doors closed or only very slightly open at the moment and I'm going to look for some good mesh fabric to make something to put across windows when they're open.

You can hire my cat Merlin. He hates magpies and has killed so many they now avoid our garden. Oddly he doesn't seem interested in other birds.

I have a mesh on my bathroom window but the magpies tear strips out of it...

Still - I would try the mesh anyway.

The RSPB set traps to catch them.

You need a larsen trap and an air pistol / air rifle to dispatch them.
