VA Upgrades with miles

Have I misunderstood this? If I buy an economy ticket, can I only use my miles to upgrade to a different class if there is reward availability in that class? I just thought I could use my miles to upgrade.

Yes, there has to be reward availability, they don�t offer very many at all, you need to keep checking and as soon as you see availability phone them up to book them, you also have to pay the taxes on the class you upgrade to x

You also need to buy an 'upgradable' economy ticket in the first place, keep that in mind. Ring Flying club and they will help you (if the get the right person on the other end)
