I think lots of people object to how little tax they pay. But they’re doing nothing illegal and my stance is, if you run a business, then you’d seek to pay as little tax as possible, it’s good business sense surely. Would any of us voluntarily pay more tax than we have to

Amazon pays £290m in UK tax as sales surge to £14bn bbc/news/business-54082273

I agree with you but it “seems’ they are addressing it and still pay a huge whack in real ££s (I also think a lot of people are jealous of their successful business model )

The shops on my high street are awful. Small and poorly stocked, even if they were the kind of shops I needed to use. The only one I shop in semi-regularly is Poundland but even that is only for a few cleaning products. So unfortunately, I have to use online shopping if I need anything that I can't get in a supermarket.

But anyway... been using them since the 90s and I can't fault Amazon's service. If it's a month when I'm not subscribed to Prime, even the free delivery option turns up quickly. Good returns as well, usually have the refund issued within an hour of scanning the return slip at the Post Office.

I use them regularly too, they are generally the first place I look.

I think the speed in which you can get something delivered is amazing. The cost of Amazon Prime is set at a reasonable price point too. I think they make it hard for other companies to compete as the Amazon model is now many consumers expectation. I quite often look at delivery fees, esp. for small businesses online and think twice about ordering, but then remind myself they haven’t got the infrastructure of Amazon.

In terms of them being an unethical company. Their tax avoidance is well publicised but then, lots of large companies do the same. I’m not saying that’s right but it something the government should be tightening up on. I have seen various reports over the years about the working environment for staff in the warehouses being very pressurised and target driven. I think that Amazon are trying hard to shake that image.

Rarely use Amazon - if I do buy something online it’s usually direct from the shop.

I was in John Lewis yesterday (rarely go shopping at the moment either). They really need to get their act together - almost everything I was interested in didn’t have a price and I just couldn’t be bothered having to find someone to ask. We are wanting a new slimline dishwasher and they only had one on show. I bought nothing.

I should add I am trying not to buy just for the sake of it and I am getting quite good at it!

I looked how much I spent at Amazon last year and from memory it was over £10000 I was amazed although I had a couple of expensive purchases last year. I joined it 20 years ago and buy 50% of the things I buy from it.
It’s saying I can sign up to free delivery supermarket shopping soon so I may end up using that as well. We also have Amazon Now or whatever it’s called and I’ve ordered things and have them turn up by taxi an hour later.

Mum worked at JL for twenty years, so it’s normally our go to as she still gets 25% discount. But she thinks they could be the next big chain to go. Never have anything in stock, can’t compete with internet prices, they’re struggling. Our nearest Waitrose is closing and opening a food court inside JL. Think this might happen to more Waitrose stores

I tried to buy kitchen knives from John Lewis via click and collect so they would see me before they handed them over. Website would not allow purchase. Bought them from Amazon who said 18 year old must be in to receive.

I dont understand!

For us I think the Prime Membership is over priced. We never get items delivered the next day and on a number of occasions Prime delivery which states 2 days delivery has taken longer.
