Disney cutting 28000 jobs

Just seen on us tv that Disney are cutting 28000 jobs across it’s parks and organisation. Not good news for all those great cast members. Hopefully 2021 will be a good year and we get back to normality sooner than later before the unthinkable happens.

This is terrible news. The parks are never going to be the same. Of course they will claim they will rehire when the time is right but let’s be honest, they will find ways to keep the corners cut, and quality will suffer

Not sure. I think you are definitely right until there is a sustained economic recovery which may take years.

There were huge swathes of staff laid off after 9/11 and to a smaller extent post 2008. But things did recover.

Cost cutting and investment cycles will keep on happening and I don’t (personally) think it will necessarily never improve but I think that will take years not months. Plus Chapek is a known cost cutter !

CMs let go at Disney parks

Sad news - sorry to post:

wdwnt/2020/09/after-23-y...-roost-lounge/

Disney have released a statement indicating wide job losses across their US parks:

twitter/disneyparksnews/...793947137?s=21

Knowing WDW CMs who have struggled over recent months on low salaries and dramatically reduced contracted hours and having to cope with on-going dangers of this terrible pandemic this is going to be life changing for many people who make the magic happen.

Terribly sad time and wish CMs both East and West coast all the best and hoping things improve for them.

The cuts only relate to Disney parks in the US; Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai & Paris not affected (so far)

Disney laying off 28,000 employees, it's not looking good!

Just had this info come through from the DFB.

Really considering cancelling our 2021 trip now
