Sorry to jump in, how did you get the card, I had a look online and on I noticed a deposit was needed, is this correct and how easy is it to get the deposit back?

Easy to buy from machines once you arrive, and ALL cards sold have a deposit on them of quite a small amount, about £5 or so I think. At the end of the holiday you can go to the ticket office at the station, hand back the card and they will give you money left on card (and the deposit) back in your hand as cash.

I bought mine on ebay before I went on holiday

You can get them from vending machines at the train station at the airport (NRT, but assuming HND will be the same). Theres videos on YouTube of exactly where the machines are if you want to get your bearings before your arrive, that's what I did just so I had an idea where I was going.

If you have children you can get a half price suica card from the JR manned office. It is a single piece of paper plus show your passport. Easy peasy - there is an office at lower 1f in Narita with an English speaking staff member.

I brought mine online - japan-rail-pass/se...4aAk0bEALw_wcB

I found this so useful. We did have the JR pass as well but it doesn't cover everything and sometimes it's much quicker to use the non JR lines. You can get the deposit back but the card is valid for 10 years and we are planning to go back next year so just left the money on there.
