Ocean Drive and Miami Beach?

So we have flights booked into Miami and will be having one night in Miami. The plan is a night in airport hotel before driving up to Orlando first thing. Hopefully if all goes well we could have the car about 5pm so not sure if we are missing a trick by not going over to the Miami Beach area to sample it and stay the night over there. Is this a good idea? It will be a Friday night so concerned about traffic getting over that way and is it ok for a family? We’re bound to be tired as well. Any views or recommendations? Seems a shame to be there and be by the airport!

Would you get an Uber to Miami Beach and collect the car next
Day on way to Orlando.
If it was me going I would do at least 2 nights to get the Miami experience. One thing is parking is expensive we paid about 40 a night I think, ocean drive the open bus tour is a great way to see the city. We stayed in the Marseilles Hotel which backed onto the beach and it was only a few mins walk to Ocean Dr

No I’d collect the car at the airport. It would be just that evening and up to the afternoon as we have accommodation already booked in Orlando.

Stayed at the Marseilles a few times.
Location was pretty good.
We parked in the multi storey about 100 yards away across the street... I think it was about $25 per day.

We've flown to Miami 3 times and never seen any of it, other than the airport and the highway in/out of it! We did stay in Blue Lagoon drive by the airport the first time but literally just drove 5 mins round the corner to McDonalds. I always say lets stay in Miami on the first night, but it never happens. I think if we were going to be there for a few nights I would enjoy it, but as we just want to get out and on our way I would much rather just drive up the coast, the traffic first thing in the morning can be awful!
