DVC at Grand Californian - what should I know?

I've never rented DVC points, nor have I been to Disneyland California.

We were planning a few nights in either Disneyland Hotel or the Grand Californian and I've just noticed that David's Vacation Club Rentals offer the Grand Californian at much cheaper rates than direct with the hotel.

Has anyone stayed there before? Are the DVC rooms any different to those advertised as regular rooms?

Is there anything down side to renting DVC points as opposed to booking via the hotel eg housekeeping etc?

Many thanks

With DVC you will get the choice of a studio, one bedroom or two bedroom villa.

The studio has a queen bed and double sofa. It also has a kitchenette.

The one bed has a a king bed in the bedroom, queen sleeper sofa and single pull down in the living room. There is a full kitchen plus washer and dryer.

Two bed is a one bed & studio together.

There is no daily housekeeping in DVC units - you get trash removed everyday and either clean towels or full clean every 4 days.

The regular resort rooms usually have 2 queen beds and will have daily housekeeping.

VGC are hard to get unless using an owner as there are only 48 units; all in one wing. Also DVC points rental usually have no cancellation allowed.

The CG is an amazing resort and we can't wait to stay again

Thanks for you advice.

Unfortunately they don't have any availability...we have left it rather last minute

But I'll certainly think about renting DVC points for next time.

You would be very lucky to get a VGC villa 7 months out, so you’d probably need a VGC owner to rent at 11. Not very likely and others will be on a waiting list. Not very easy to rent points for VGC.

For 7 months you need to be bang on the 7 month window. We have got it twice for July using our BLT points

We stayed for 5 nights last September and had a great time. Loved the pool the loungers were comfy and the cocktails were very nice!
The studio was as you would expect for a high class dvc property.
The best bit was the secret entrance to California adventure which was great when we wanted a sneaky afternoon snooze.
The worst bit which was only minor was that we had to walk a bit for breakfast as the restaurants in the hotel were a little pricey...
